Odia swimmer Sai Swarup bags 3 medals in junior national meet

Bhubaneswar: Inspire institute of sports JSW trainee Odisha’s young swimming sensation Sai Swarup Swain created history by winning two gold and a bronze medal in the 51st Junior National Aquatic championship 2025, which concluded at Ahmedabad, Gujarat on Thursday.

On the concluding day, Sai Swarup clinched a gold medal in the 100m Backstroke with a timing of 1:10.61 sec. Reyansh Kanthi Y of Karnataka and Abhijith P P of Kerala won the silver and bronze medal clocking 1:12.01 and 1:13.80 respectively.      

He is the first men swimmer of Odisha, who won gold medal in national swimming meet, for any male swimmer of Odisha.

Sai Swaroop clinched gold and bronze medals in the Men’s 200m Backstroke and 50m Backstroke events with a timing of 2:31.50 and 32.59 seconds.

Being a cricketer his father introduced cricket to Sai Swarup at the tender age, but he developed interest towards aquatic sports. He joined the Inspire institute of sports JSW at Kalinga Stadium.  Under the guidance of coaches Yurbesh Dubey and Douglas Eager he succeeded at the national platform, said Sai Swarup’s mother.
