New Delhi/ Bhubaneswar, Sept 15: A special Nuakhai celebration will be organised at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi today, with five cultural groups from Odisha invited to showcase the state’s rich cultural traditions.
Among the five groups are two cultural teams from the undivided Koraput region-the Lanjia Saura group from Rayagada district and Kala Bikash Kendra from Kotpad in Koraput district.
A 16-member team from Kala Bikash Kendra will perform the traditional Koraputia Dhemssa at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday evening.
The team, led by Sagar Bisoi, has already reached New Delhi and completed its final rehearsals ahead of the special performance.
The two cultural groups were invited to participate in the Nuakhai celebration following special letters issued by the Deputy Director of the Department of Odia Language, Literature and Culture.
Accordingly, the artists of Kala Bikash Kendra travelled from Bhubaneswar by air and reached New Delhi on Sunday.
The 'Dhemssa' group includes Sahadev Bisoi, Sritam Samantaray, Shankar Kumar Nayak, Kapilesh Nayak, Suresh Harijan, Dhansai Harijan, Bhuban Randhari, Chandan Swain, Nita Kumari Bhumia, Devi Tulsa Bagderia, Rashmita Bagderia, Bedeswari Ganda, Malati Bindhani, Mamata Samrath and Anita Harijan.
The participation of the two groups from the Koraput region is expected to add a distinctive tribal and regional flavour to the Nuakhai celebrations at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The event will provide an opportunity to showcase Odisha’s traditional music and dance traditions on a national platform and highlight the cultural diversity associated with Nuakhai.
