New Delhi, Oct 31: The government has discarded the special additional excise duty (SAED) on petrol exports and has increased the duty on high-speed diesel to Rs 11.5 per litre and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) to Rs 11 per litre, as per notifications from the Ministry of Finance. The revised rates came into force on October 31, following their publication in the Official Gazette.
Under the latest changes, the SAED on petrol exports has been brought down to zero from the earlier Rs 2.5 per litre. However, the levy on high-speed diesel exports has been raised from Rs 8.5 to Rs 11.5 per litre.
In a separate notification, the Finance Ministry increased the SAED on aviation turbine fuel (ATF) exports from Rs 10.5 to Rs 11 per litre. The changes have been notified by the Department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance.

The Centre had introduced special export duties on petrol, diesel and ATF on March 27, 2026, amid the West Asia crisis. The move was aimed at discouraging exports and ensuring adequate availability of petroleum products in the domestic market amid concerns over international supply disruptions and rising energy prices.
Since their introduction, the applicable duties have been reviewed every fortnight. The revisions take into account the average international prices of crude oil, petrol, diesel and ATF recorded during the period following the previous review.
The rates have been adjusted several times in response to fluctuations in global energy prices. In the previous revision, which came into effect on October 16, the SAED on petrol exports was fixed at Rs 2.5 per litre, while diesel and ATF attracted levies of Rs 8.5 and Rs 10.5 per litre, respectively.
With the latest revision, the government has removed the export duty on petrol while tightening the levy on diesel and ATF shipments. (With ANI inputs)
