Repeat traffic violator vehicle becomes scene of Noida assault
Records expose a disturbing pattern of lawlessness regarding the sleeper bus involved in the recent gang-rape of a 16-year-old girl in Noida. Documents confirm this vehicle collected 12 traffic challans since April, with nine penalties issued during a 23-day span in July alone. Most of these fines resulted from excessive speeding along routes connecting Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
History of Repeated Traffic Violations
Officials at the Firozabad RTO office registered the bus on April 28. Just weeks later, on May 12, authorities caught the driver speeding at two different spots on the Yamuna Expressway, including milestone 72, issuing two fines of Rs 4,000 each. By June, traffic police penalized the driver in Noida's Sector 168 for changing lanes without using an indicator.
July proved even worse, as the vehicle accumulated nine separate fines totaling Rs 56,000 on trips from Uttar Pradesh to Delhi. This sharp rise in automated traffic detection across regional junctions has drastically increased the capture of such dangerous driving patterns.

Details of Tragic August Incident
Events took a horrific turn on the night of August 4. The victim, a Class 11 student from Mainpuri, had left her home after a family argument, planning to visit her cousin in Noida Sector 63. She mistakenly alighted at Pari Chowk in Greater Noida during heavy rain around 9 pm. The driver and conductor of the heavily penalized sleeper bus offered her a ride, falsely claiming they were heading toward Sector 63. Instead, they assaulted her and later abandoned her near Kashmere Gate, 40 kilometers away.
Government Response and Safety Measures
Law enforcement agencies swiftly traced the vehicle, seized it for forensic analysis, and arrested both suspects. This brutal crime echoes the chilling 2012 Nirbhaya case, prompting immediate political reaction. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the city government will engage with neighboring states to link the GPS systems of incoming buses directly with Delhi government monitoring networks. This aims to improve safety for vulnerable women and children traversing regional borders. Police are currently finalizing the chargesheet against the accused.
