For this group, the achievement is more than just an academic milestone — it is a powerful statement of self-belief and a step toward inclusion in mainstream society. The candidates had faced years of discrimination and stigma, which at times forced them to abandon their education. However, undeterred by societal pressures, they resumed their studies with a clear goal: to become educated and self-reliant.
Our journey back to the classroom began at Sarojini Sanskrit High School in Charampa, where we enrolled and attended regular classes. In addition to classroom learning, we prepared rigorously during our spare time. Our efforts were supported by government schemes, the guidance of our mentor (referred to as guruma), and assistance from the Saathi Foundation — a local organization advocating for transgender rights”, they said.
The students appeared for their board exams at RCBL High School, hopeful and determined. Their perseverance bore fruit as all nine candidates passed: seven secured Grade B, while two achieved Grade C.
