Bhubaneswar, Sept 6: A new greenfield road is proposed to connect Pipili with Konark, with the alignment of the ambitious project discussed at a high-level meeting chaired by Odisha Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan.
The proposed road will be built entirely as a new greenfield route, and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is expected to be taken up soon. The project is aimed at improving connectivity to Konark and easing traffic pressure on existing routes.
The meeting also reviewed several road and flyover projects planned to reduce congestion in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri.
A new alignment has been designed for the proposed Outer Ring Road, which will begin from Baghamari in Khordha and extend up to the municipal boundary of Choudwar. The proposed road will be around 129 km long and is planned to be integrated with parts of the Capital Region Ring Road.
Meanwhile, the OBCC has started work on an elevated corridor from Jayadev Vihar to Nandankanan, which is expected to ease traffic congestion within Bhubaneswar and reduce travel time towards Cuttack.
The government is also examining the possibility of constructing another flyover from Raghunathpur Bridge to Trishulia Square. A feasibility survey for the project will be conducted soon.
Similarly, the long-pending flyover project from Kalinga Studio Square to Nuagaon has received approval for a revised design. The Works Minister has directed officials to complete the tender process at the earliest. A tender for the proposed Kalpana Square flyover is also expected to be invited soon.
The meeting further discussed the first and third phases of the Daya Western project, with work on the first phase near Baranga expected to begin shortly.
Works Department officials were directed to remove hurdles related to land acquisition and expedite DPR preparation for the proposed projects.
Works Department Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh stressed the need for immediate action to clear bottlenecks and complete the land acquisition and DPR processes.
The minister said several important road, bridge and building projects have already received approval, while more projects are in the pipeline. Once implemented, these infrastructure projects are expected to improve connectivity, reduce congestion and contribute to the state's economic growth.
