Sambalpur, Sept 16: Weather forecasting and disaster preparedness in Odisha’s western region are set to get a boost with the inauguration of an advanced C-Band Doppler Weather Radar in Sambalpur.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is scheduled to inaugurate the radar system, which can provide weather-related data covering an area of around 250 km in radius.
The radar is designed to strengthen monitoring and forecasting of several weather events, including rainfall, lightning, thunderstorms, hailstorms and extreme rainfall. The information is expected to help authorities issue timely alerts and improve preparedness for adverse weather conditions.
The radar has already started providing weather-related data over the past few days. Once fully operational, it is expected to improve the availability of advance weather information across western Odisha.
