Bhubaneswar, August 20: Former Odisha Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik was discharged from SUM Ultimate Medicare Hospital on Wednesday evening, following a brief period of treatment.
Patnaik, who had been admitted on Sunday evening after complaining of uneasiness, was diagnosed with dehydration. Hospital authorities confirmed that he was admitted at 5:15 pm and was kept under close medical supervision. Following prompt treatment, his condition stabilized, paving the way for his safe discharge.
After leaving the hospital, Patnaik returned to his residence, Naveen Niwas, in what doctors and close associates described as a “healthy and stable condition.” His discharge has brought relief to supporters and well-wishers across the state, who had been concerned about his health.
Expressing his gratitude, Naveen personally thanked Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan, Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee President Bhakta Charan Das, and senior BJD leaders who visited him during his hospital stay. Their visits, he said, were a source of encouragement during his recovery.
In a significant gesture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke to Patnaik over the phone on Wednesday, enquiring about his health and wishing him a speedy recovery.
Patnaik’s discharge marks the end of a short but widely monitored hospitalisation, with political circles in Odisha closely following updates on his health. As the state’s longest-serving chief minister and a towering figure in Odisha politics, his well-being continues to be a matter of public attention.
