Bhubaneswar, Jul 16: Mumbai-based female DJ, Hina Sheikh, narrowly escaped a horrific ordeal in Bhubaneswar at a hotel after performing at a local nightclub.
The police have arrested three individuals in connection with the case, including the owner of Club Leo in Raghunathpur and two of his associates.
According to the complaint filed by Sheikh at the Nandankanan Police Station (Case No. 256/25), she was hired to perform at the club for Rs 22,000 and was accommodated at a hotel arranged by the organisers. Following her performance on the night of July 11, she was invited to a hotel room by the nightclub owner for dinner.
Upon arriving, she was allegedly confronted by the 30-year-old club owner and two other men aged 27 and 21. Sheikh claims she was pressured to stay overnight, physically assaulted, and even faced an attempt to strangle her when she tried to escape. She managed to flee the room, locked herself in her own hotel room, and immediately dialled the emergency number 112.
Following her complaint, the police swiftly arrested all three accused. Investigations have revealed that the prime accused has a criminal background, with at least seven previous cases filed against him. He remains in police custody, and further inquiries are underway to identify any other individuals involved.
The incident has sparked outrage among citizens and raised serious concerns about women's safety, especially for artists and performers visiting the city. Local authorities have assured that strict action will be taken and justice will be served.
