Baripada, Sep 4: A family dispute turned fatal in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district after a 19-year-old man allegedly strangled his mother to death at their home. The accused has been arrested by the police.
The incident took place on Thursday night in Barajpur village under the jurisdiction of Baripada Sadar police station. The deceased was identified as Srimati Singh, a resident of the village.
Police have arrested her son, Kuinia Singh, in connection with the incident and launched an investigation.
According to police, Srimati’s husband had died earlier, and the couple had four sons and two daughters. Her two daughters had been married off several years ago.
Srimati and her four sons had been working in Chennai. Recently, Srimati and her second son, Kuinia, returned to their native village.
On Thursday night, an argument reportedly broke out between the mother and son over an unspecified issue. During the altercation, Kuinia allegedly strangled Srimati inside their house, killing her.
The incident came to light on Friday morning after neighbours learned about the death and informed the police.
Baripada Sadar police reached the spot and began an investigation. Police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.
