Dhenkanal, April 20: While the Hindol Forest in Odisha has registered a number of elephants death and elephant attack during a few months, a mother elephant and its calf’s death have been reported here on Monday.
The forest officials in Hindol, have recovered decomposed bodies of a 15-year old mother elephant and its newborn calf form the Kanaka beat under the Dandiri Section today.
Remnants of the carcasses were sent for post mortem exams to assess the cause behind the death of the pachyderms.
According to the forest officials’ assessment, the mother elephant succumbed during distressed delivery while the newborn calf died due to lack of nourish.
Further enquiry is underway to discover other probable reasons behind the death of the two jumbos.
