Odisha Woman Missing for Decades Finally Reunites With Family in Kendrapara

Kendrapara, Oct 5: For Odisha’s Pramila Malik, the long wait is finally over. After being separated from her family for several decades, Pramila is finally home again.

Pramila’s journey back to her roots began after she was traced to an old-age home at Bhangrotu in Himachal Pradesh. Missing from a very young age, Pramila was assumed dead by her family. Failing to trace her whereabouts for decades, her heartbroken family members had given up all hope.

However, Kendrapara Police and India Cares came to their rescue. Pramila’s whereabouts were established through coordinated efforts involving the local administration and India Cares, paving the way for an emotional reunion with her family in Odisha.

Once her identity was confirmed and the necessary formalities completed, Kendrapara Police stepped in to bring her safely back home. A special police team was constituted for the purpose and coordinated with the authorities in Himachal Pradesh to ensure her safe return.

On October 4, 2026, decades of separation came to an end when Malik reunited with her family at Pattamundai in Kendrapara. The emotional homecoming brought relief and happiness to a family that had waited for years to see her return.

Kendrapara Police expressed its special gratitude to India Cares for coordinating with the administrations concerned and facilitating the rescue and reunion.

“The reunion reflects the power of compassion, coordination and collaboration. Kendrapara Police remains committed to the safety, dignity, and well-being of all citizens, especially the vulnerable,” Kendrapara Police said.

Likewise, India Cares said, “We are deeply grateful to the Kendrapada Police team and everyone who came together to bring Smt. Pramila Malik home after decades. It was an honour for India Cares to be a part of this journey. A homecoming that will stay with us.”

The reunion is more than just a family coming together. It is a story of compassion, persistence and coordinated action, demonstrating how the combined efforts of the police, administration and civil society can change lives.
