Bhubaneswar, August 18: A disturbing incident has come to the surface from Odisha’s Sambalpur district, where a 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by five individuals on Sunday evening within the jurisdiction of Jamankira police station.
The case came to light after the victim’s family filed a formal complaint with the local police station. In response, police launched an immediate investigation and formed a special team to track down the suspects.
By late Sunday night, three of the accused were taken into custody, including the individual identified as the prime suspect. Two others remain at large, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend them.
Sambalpur Superintendent of Police Mukesh Bhamoo addressed the media on Monday, stating, “We received the complaint on Sunday evening. A dedicated team was deployed, and raids were conducted at several locations. Three accused, including the main perpetrator, have been arrested. A manhunt is underway to locate the remaining two.”
According to police sources, all five accused are residents of the same village as the victim. The arrested individuals are between 19 and 21 years old.
The victim is currently in stable condition, and her medical examination is scheduled for Monday.
