New Delhi, May 14: President Droupadi Murmu was briefed on Wednesday by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan and the three service chiefs on the planning and execution of Operation Sindoor, India’s precise military response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam. Conducted between May 7 and May 10, the operation targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), with officials highlighting its success in minimizing collateral damage.
Following the high-level meeting, the Rashtrapati Bhavan issued a statement noting that the President commended the valour, professionalism, and commitment of the armed forces. “India’s resolute response to terrorism was marked by strategic precision and operational excellence,” it said.
The briefing came a day after the CDS and service chiefs debriefed military veterans and strategic experts at the Manekshaw Centre in Delhi Cantonment. There, officials revealed that over 100 terrorists were neutralized in strikes on nine identified terror camps. The Indian Air Force also conducted multiple precision strikes on military installations in Pakistan during the operation.
Spanning land, air, and maritime domains, the one-hour presentation detailed the unprecedented level of jointness and integration achieved in conducting multi-domain warfare. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had interacted with military veterans at his residence on May 9, a day before the ceasefire took effect.
India and Pakistan formally agreed to halt all military actions at 5 pm on Saturday, May 10, following a hotline conversation between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs). A follow-up call on May 12 reaffirmed the ceasefire, with both sides committing to a complete cessation of hostilities.
In a strategic outreach on Tuesday, Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) chief Lieutenant General DS Rana briefed defence attachés from 70 countries. He underscored that Operation Sindoor has redefined India’s posture against cross-border terrorism, conveying a new level of strategic clarity and deterrence.
General Rana emphasized that the operation demonstrated India's superiority in space, cyber, and electronic warfare and cautioned against Pakistan’s persistent disinformation campaigns that threaten regional stability.
Reinforcing this message during his visit to the Adampur airbase, Prime Minister Modi declared, “India’s red line on terrorism is now unmistakably drawn. Should there be another provocation, our response will be decisive. Operation Sindoor reflects every ounce of the Indian military’s might and resolve. The so-called ‘universities of terror’ will no longer find haven.”
