Bhubaneswar, Oct 7: A 35-year-old man allegedly attacked four fellow passengers with a sharp weapon aboard a government-run bus in Odisha’s Puri district on Tuesday, said police.

The incident occurred on a bus travelling from Khandahota to Kanas, said Puri Superintendent of Police (SP) Prateek Singh. The motive behind the sudden attack remains unclear.

Following the assault, other passengers on the bus overpowered the accused and assaulted him, causing him to sustain injuries as well, the SP added.

“Information about the incident was received around 10 am at Kanas police station. Police immediately reached the scene. The four injured individuals were first taken to the Kanas Community Health Centre. Later, two of them were referred to Puri District Hospital for further treatment,” Singh said.

He further informed that the other two injured passengers were discharged after receiving medical care, while the accused is currently undergoing treatment at the Puri District Headquarters Hospital.

A case has been registered against the accused, and appropriate legal action will be taken, Singh confirmed.
