Bhubaneswar, June 11: A major railway mishap was narrowly averted near Bhubaneswar Railway Station on Thursday morning after two trains reportedly came face-to-face on the same track near the Jharpada overbridge.
The incident has raised serious concerns over railway safety, especially in the aftermath of the tragic Balasore train accident. According to preliminary reports, one of the trains involved was the Konark Express, while the identity of the other train was yet to be confirmed.
Sources said both trains were found on the same track, triggering panic among railway officials and commuters. Reports of a possible collision also surfaced, although no official confirmation has been issued by the Railways so far.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported in the incident.
On receiving information, senior railway officials and technical teams rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation. Railway authorities are examining how two trains were allowed onto the same track and whether there was any signalling, operational or human error behind the incident.
The development has once again put the spotlight on railway safety mechanisms. Officials said a detailed inquiry has been ordered and appropriate action will be taken against those found responsible.
Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
