Bhubaneswar, September 8: The Odisha government on Monday cautioned that parts of Puri and Jagatsinghpur districts situated in the Mahanadi delta may witness waterlogging, as the river continues to carry heavy flow.
Engineer-in-Chief of the Water Resources Department, Chandrasekhar Padhi, clarified that there is no overall flood threat to the state. However, he noted that nearly 5 lakh cusecs of water flowing through the Mahanadi at Mundali near Cuttack could impact certain vulnerable pockets of the delta.
Padhi further informed that the water discharge is on a declining trend. “The river carried 6.26 lakh cusecs on Sunday, which has now reduced to 4.58 lakh cusecs,” he said, adding that the situation is being closely monitored.
