LPG Supply Remains Smooth with Adequate Stock, Says IOCL

New Delhi, April 8: Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) assured the public on Wednesday that LPG supply across the country remains uninterrupted, with sufficient stock available. The oil giant emphasized its continuous efforts to ensure that cylinders reach households without delay.

In a social media post on platform X, IOCL, the country's largest oil marketing company, urged consumers to remain calm and avoid placing unnecessary orders, as distribution systems are operating smoothly and cylinders are readily accessible.

"With adequate stock available, LPG supply is running smoothly. Indian Oil is working tirelessly to ensure that cylinders are available for every household," IOCL stated. "Please stay calm and avoid unnecessary bookings," it added.

This reassurance comes in light of the government's ongoing initiatives to streamline LPG distribution for both domestic and industrial sectors.

Earlier in the day, the Centre announced an increase in the commercial LPG limit to 70% of the pre-March 2026 bulk consumption level. This extended allocation will benefit several industrial sectors, including pharmaceuticals, food processing, polymers, agriculture, packaging, paint, steel, and glass industries. However, the enhanced allocation is capped at a sectoral limit of 0.2 thousand metric tonnes per day, as per an official statement.

Industries seeking bulk LPG under this new measure will need to comply with registration requirements with oil marketing companies and apply for piped natural gas (PNG) connections through city gas distribution (CGD) entities. However, exceptions will be made for sectors where LPG is crucial in the manufacturing process or for specialized uses that cannot be replaced by natural gas.

Meanwhile, the government has boosted supply for vulnerable communities, especially migrant workers. The daily supply of 5 kg LPG cylinders, commonly used by these workers, has been doubled. Over 1.1 lakh 5 kg cylinders are now being sold daily, compared to an average of 77,000 in February. Since March 23, nearly 8.9 lakh 5 kg cylinders have been distributed nationwide.

Additionally, commercial LPG availability remains strong, with approximately 93,085 metric tonnes sold since March 14. On Tuesday alone, 6,646 metric tonnes—equivalent to over 3.5 lakh 19 kg cylinders—were distributed, highlighting the stability of demand and supply.Bottom of Form
