New Delhi, September 8: The 72nd National Film Awards ceremony will be held in Kevadia, Gujarat, instead of New Delhi, where the prestigious event has traditionally been organised for several years.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on September 22, with further details about the event expected to be announced soon.

At the 72nd National Film Awards, Kartik Aaryan and Mammootty were jointly honoured with the Best Actor in a Leading Role award for their performances in Chandu Champion and Bramayugam, respectively.

Reacting to the honour, Kartik Aaryan expressed his gratitude in an Instagram post, describing the National Award as a dream he had carried for years.

Meanwhile, Article 370 was named Best Feature Film, while Bhangaar won the Best Non-Feature Film award and Ram-Nami was adjudged Best Documentary.

The winners were announced in July by Jayaraj, Chairperson of the Feature Film Jury; Aseem Sinha, Chairperson of the Non-Feature Film Jury; and A Chandrasekhar, Chairperson of the Best Writing on Cinema Jury. The announcement was made in the presence of Dr Ajay Nagabhushan M.N., Joint Secretary (Films), and Dhirendra Ojha, Principal Director General, Press Information Bureau.

The National Film Awards are among India's most prestigious honours in cinema, recognising excellence across feature films, non-feature films and writing on cinema.
