Bhubaneswar, Aug 28: A low-pressure area that had developed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the Odisha coast has now intensified into a well-marked low-pressure system. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the system is likely to move in a west-northwest direction within the next 24 hours, possibly impacting parts of Chhattisgarh by Friday.
According to senior meteorologist Professor Surendranath Pasupalak, another low-pressure system is expected to form over the region on September 3, although it is not likely to strengthen significantly.
Rainfall is expected in several parts of Odisha over the coming days. On August 28, isolated showers may occur, while central and northern Odisha could receive light rain on the 29th. Rainfall is likely to extend to northern and western Odisha on the 30th, and most parts of the state may see light showers by the 31st. In some areas, moderate rainfall up to 35 mm is also possible. However, the IMD has ruled out any chances of heavy rainfall until the end of the month.
Heavy showers were reported in parts of southern Odisha on Wednesday. The weather department has predicted increased rainfall activity in certain districts on Thursday, including Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Balangir, Nuapada, and Bargarh. Western Odisha may also experience rainfall on the 29th and 30th.
The IMD continues to monitor the evolving system and has advised people in affected regions to stay updated with the latest forecasts.
