Berhampur, August 26: In a tragic turn of events, three women lost their lives after being struck by lightning in two separate incidents reported from Sarabhimpur and Raulibandha villages under Chhatrapur Block of Ganjam district.
The deceased have been identified as Kuni Gouda and Nirupama Gouda from Sarabhimpur, and Mini Gouda from Raulibandha.
According to local sources, Kuni and Nirupama- reportedly sisters-in-law- were working in the fields when a sudden lightning strike fatally hit them. Both died on the spot.
In a similar incident in nearby Raulibandha village, Mini Gouda was also killed by lightning while she was reportedly engaged in agricultural work.
Upon receiving the information, local police along with the Revenue Inspector (RI) reached the sites and launched an investigation. The bodies were recovered and sent to the nearest medical facility for post-mortem examination.
Authorities are likely to extend compensation to the bereaved families as per government norms.
