Patna, May 25: In a dramatic turn of events, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Sunday expelled his elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav, both from party and family, citing serious breaches of moral and social values.
In a strongly worded post on X (formerly Twitter), Lalu Yadav said, “The activities, public behaviour, and irresponsible conduct of my eldest son are not in line with our family’s values and cultural ethos. Ignoring moral values in personal life weakens our collective struggle for social justice.”
Declaring Tej Pratap’s expulsion for six years, Lalu added, “He will have no role whatsoever in the party or family in the future. He can make personal decisions, but those who wish to associate with him must do so at their discretion.”
RJD leader and Tej Pratap’s younger brother, Tejashwi Yadav, also addressed the matter, stating, “We cannot tolerate such things. Political and personal lives are different. My brother is an adult and free to make his own choices. The party chief has expressed his views, and we respect that.”
The fallout comes amid a fresh controversy involving Tej Pratap, who on Saturday claimed that his Facebook account had been hacked following a post about a long-term relationship. The post stirred public memory of his past marital dispute.
Tej Pratap had earlier married Aishwarya Rai, granddaughter of former Bihar CM Daroga Rai. However, the marriage soon turned turbulent, with Aishwarya alleging mistreatment and filing for divorce, a case that remains pending in court.
The timing of this public rift is significant, coming just months ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections scheduled later this year.
