Competitive gaming continues to gain formal recognition across international sporting frameworks. Esports originally debuted as a demonstration event during the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. By the time Hangzhou hosted the 2022 games, it had transitioned into an official medal sport. India sent teams to compete in DOTA 2, EA Sports FC, League of Legends, and Street Fighter at that event. Indian gamers secured a fifth-place finish in League of Legends. Looking ahead to the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, the competitive programme expands to feature 11 titles. India plans to compete in eFootball, League of Legends, Pokémon UNITE, and Puyo Puyo Champions.
