“Keralam CM Decision to Be Announced Tomorrow”: Jairam Ramesh

New Delhi, May 13: Congress General Secretary in charge of Communications, Jairam Ramesh, on Wednesday stated that the party will announce the next Chief Minister of Keralam tomorrow, following the conclusion of internal deliberations by the high command. The Assembly election results were declared on May 4, but the Congress has not yet revealed its choice for the CM post.

Speaking to reporters, Ramesh said, “As authorised by the members of the CLP in Keralam, the high command of Congress has completed all discussions. The decision on who the next CM of Keralam will be announced tomorrow.”

His remarks come amid sustained speculation over the Chief Ministerial candidate, ten days after the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) secured a decisive mandate in the 2026 Assembly elections. The Congress high command has been consulting senior Keralam leaders in New Delhi to finalise the CM nominee.

Among the frontrunners for the position are Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, and senior leader Ramesh Chennithala.

The UDF achieved a convincing victory in the Keralam Assembly elections, comfortably surpassing the majority mark of 71 seats in the 140-member House. The coalition’s success is widely interpreted as a rejection of the decade-long rule of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and marks a significant comeback for the Congress-led alliance. UDF won a total of 102 seats, with the Congress itself securing 63.

Meanwhile, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla criticised Congress for the delay, saying the party appears “overwhelmed with confusion” over the CM nominee. Speaking to ANI, he remarked, “Even after nine days, the Congress party is in complete confusion. They secured a full majority in Keralam, yet there is indecision. I was even told there could be five CMs in five years. Wherever there is a Congress CM, there seems to be confusion, as seen in Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh,” taking a dig at the party’s track record.
