Puri, May 5: Four persons have been arrested in connection with the brutal attack on a youth at a fish market in Gola Bazaar under Kanas police station limits on Saturday. The victim was allegedly hacked with a fish-cutting knife and later run over by a motorcycle.

Puri Superintendent of Police Prateek Singh disclosed the details during a press conference held at Satyabadi police station on Monday afternoon. He said a case had been registered against seven individuals, out of which four have been apprehended so far. The arrested accused have been identified as Dharmapada Barjena, Chandrakant Jena, Chinmaya Gajendra, and Ajay Baliarsingh. Ajay is currently being held at Kanas police station, while others are being interrogated at Satyabadi police station.

Police said the prime accused, identified as “Happy,” is still absconding. Special teams have been formed to trace him and others involved in the crime. Efforts are also underway to identify those who may have aided the accused in evading arrest.

Investigators have seized the fish-cutting weapon used in the assault along with two mobile phones. The accused will be produced before the court on Tuesday.
