Kalbaisakhi likely to hit 6 Odisha districts; orange warning issued

Bhubaneswar, March 20: Under the influence of Kalbaisakhi, storm and rain are likely to lash six districts of Odisha on Friday. The districts expected to be affected include Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Sambalpur. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Warning for these areas, cautioning about thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and possible hail.

As per the forecast, these districts may witness gusty winds reaching speeds of 50 to 60 kmph, along with thunderstorm activity. Meanwhile, several parts of North, Interior and South Odisha are also likely to receive light to moderate rainfall, with wind speeds ranging between 30 to 40 kmph.

The IMD has further predicted that on March 21 (Saturday), thunderstorms with rain may continue in parts of North and coastal Odisha, with an Orange Warning already in place. Similar weather conditions are expected to prevail across coastal, interior and southern regions on the same day.

Additionally, thunderstorm activity is likely to persist in parts of North Odisha till March 25.

Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious and take shelter in safe places in view of the possibility of sudden thunderstorms and lightning strikes.
