Jammu (Jammu & Kashmir), June 23: A Jammu court on Monday approved a five-day remand for two suspects arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the deadly Pahalgam terror attack.
The accused, identified as Parvaiz Ahmad and Bashir Ahmad, were presented before the Additional District and Sessions Judge, who granted the remand and scheduled the next hearing for June 27, 2025.
According to officials, the two men were apprehended for allegedly sheltering the terrorists responsible for the April 22 attack in the popular tourist town of Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians.
The arrests come amid growing political and public outrage over the incident. On Sunday, PDP leader Iltija Mufti urged the Central Government to swiftly bring the attackers to justice. Condemning the attack as "dastardly," she highlighted its devastating impact on the region's tourism industry, which she described as the backbone of Jammu and Kashmir's economy.
"Tourism has completely stopped in Pahalgam, and the local economy is suffering. I appeal to the government to arrest all those involved and initiate confidence-building measures with the people," Mufti told reporters.
The NIA continues its investigation into the broader network behind the Pahalgam terror strike.
