Delhi Capitals continued their strong campaign in the 2025 Indian Premier League, securing a comfortable eight-wicket victory over the Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday, April 22nd. Facing his former franchise for the first time since parting ways, KL Rahul played a pivotal anchoring role in the chase, after bowler Mukesh Kumar delivered a career-best performance to restrict Lucknow. Super Giants lost momentum

After being invited to bat first LSG established an excellent platform through their openers, Aiden Markram (52) and Mitchell Marsh (45). They reached 87 without loss by the tenth over, seemingly poised for a substantial total. However, following Markram's dismissal by debutant Dushmantha Chameera, the innings lost significant momentum.

Mukesh Kumar yorkers crumble DC

Delhi Capitals executed a remarkable fightback with the ball during the second half of the innings. Mukesh Kumar was outstanding, claiming career-best IPL figures of 4 for 33. He utilised hard lengths and effective yorkers, particularly at the death, dismissing key batters including Marsh and Ayush Badoni. Mitchell Starc also contributed by removing the dangerous Nicholas Pooran. LSG managed only 72 runs while losing six wickets in the final ten overs, finishing on 159 for 6 – their lowest total this season. A notable decision saw LSG captain Rishabh Pant bat as low as number seven, where he was dismissed for a two-ball duck by Mukesh in the final over.

Rahul Guides Delhi's Chase

Chasing 160, Delhi Capitals lost Karun Nair early, but KL Rahul anchored the innings with composure. After a measured start on a surface offering some assistance to bowlers, Rahul accelerated effectively, reaching his third half-century of the season. During his innings, he also achieved the milestone of becoming the fastest player to reach 5000 IPL runs (130 innings). He received good support from opener Abishek Porel, who contributed his first fifty of the season (51 off 36 balls).

Following Porel's dismissal, Delhi captain Axar Patel joined Rahul and played a brisk, unbeaten innings of 34 runs from just 20 balls. Their partnership ensured guiding Delhi Capitals to victory with 13 balls remaining. Rahul fittingly sealed the win with a six.
