Bhadrak, June 14: Internet services in Odisha’s Bhadrak district were restored on Friday evening after a prolonged suspension triggered by communal tensions following a violent clash that resulted in the death of a youth.
The suspension, which began at 6 am on Thursday, was initially announced for 24 hours but later extended by another 12 hours amid persistent unrest. The blackout affected several key areas, including Bhadrak Municipality, Bhadrak Block, Dhamnagar NAC, Dhamnagar Block, and Tihidi Block.
Authorities had enforced the shutdown after a youth, Santosh Parida, was reportedly killed in an attack by suspected cattle smugglers in the Thihidi police station area. The incident sparked widespread outrage and unrest, prompting the administration to take swift action to maintain law and order.
To prevent further escalation, the district administration deployed 27 platoons of police across sensitive zones, with Bhadrak Superintendent of Police Manoj Rout supervising ground operations.
