Aviation history made as Jewar welcomes first commercial flight
IndiGo made aviation history this morning by landing the first commercial flight at the newly opened Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh. A flight arriving from Lucknow marked the official start of commercial operations at the facility, followed quickly by a departure heading to Bengaluru. This deployment establishes the budget carrier as the debut airline for the National Capital Region's newest aviation gateway.
Travelers across western Uttar Pradesh and the broader Delhi-NCR area gain immediate access to sixteen domestic destinations through this launch. The network introduces one-stop connections linking fourteen distinct city pairs, including routes from Amritsar to Jodhpur and Chandigarh to Pantnagar. These new links aim to simplify transit between smaller economic centers and major metropolitan areas without requiring long layovers.
Strategically positioned along the Yamuna Expressway, the facility functions alongside Indira Gandhi International Airport and Hindon Airport to handle growing regional traffic. Large infrastructure developments like this mirror the rapid aviation growth seen in Odisha, where expansion at Bhubaneswar and the rise of Jharsuguda airport have similarly transformed local economies.
"Delhi NCR now joins a select group of global megacities served by multiple airports," stated Aloke Singh, Chief Strategy Officer at IndiGo, emphasizing their day-one commitment to western Uttar Pradesh. Christoph Schnellmann, Vice Chairman of Noida International Airport, noted that the partnership provides passengers with immediate choice and convenience while driving regional trade and tourism.
