Delhi, May 10: Soon after the ceasefire announcement came to force this evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting at his residence on Saturday evening.
The meeting was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh among others.
After days of cross-border attacks, India and Pakistan on Saturday agreed to stop firing and military action following DGMO-level talks.
India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri made an announcement in this regard in New Delhi this afternoon.
Misri said that the Pakistan Director General of Military Operations initiated the call for a ceasefire this afternoon, after which discussions took place and both the nation agreed to ceasefire from 5PM today. The External Affairs Ministry clarified that the stoppage of firing and military action was worked out directly between the two countries.
It added that there is no decision to hold talks on any other issue at any other place regarding the matter.
India’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr S Jaishankar confirmed the understanding on the ceasefire.
"India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on stoppage of firing and military action. India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so," tweeted EAM Dr S Jaishankar in his handle.
