Bhubaneswar, April 12:The Indian Engineers' Federation (INDEF) concluded its two-day Federal Council Meeting in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, organized by the Odisha Engineers' Service Association (OESA). The meeting focused on advocating for greater representation of engineers in policy-making.
Over 120 senior representatives from 25 states participated in the event, highlighting the unified voice of India's engineering community. The discussions centered around critical issues affecting engineering services across the nation, with particular emphasis on the need for comprehensive reforms and enhanced recognition of engineers in governance and national development.
A key agenda point was the call for establishing a unified service rule for engineers at the national level, similar to other All India Services. Additionally, the Federation urged engineers, rather than general administrators, to take leadership roles in engineering departments. The Federation emphasized the essential role of engineers in driving infrastructure development in critical sectors such as irrigation, water supply, roads, energy, and urban infrastructure, and called for their increased representation in policy decision-making.
Other key topics included addressing disparities in service conditions between states, improving cadre management, tackling issues related to transfers, seniority, and career progression, and overcoming institutional and administrative barriers to implementing reforms.
Following thorough deliberations, the Federal Council decided to propose the formation of an Engineering Commission to enhance coordination among state engineering associations and present a unified voice to the Government of India.
During the meeting, elections were held for the INDEF Executive Committee. Er. Abinash Roul from Odisha was elected as Chairman, while Er. Ashis Yadav from Uttar Pradesh was elected as Secretary General.
On April 11, Odisha's Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan attended the program as the Chief Guest. During the event, the working President of OESA, Er. Abinash Roul, along with the General Secretary and other office bearers, presented a charter of demands to the Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi through Minister Harichandan.
