India Surpasses 41 Lakh Rooftop Solar Installations Under PM Surya Ghar Scheme

Union New and Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi on Thursday said that more than 41 lakh households across the country have been covered under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, expressing confidence that the number will reach 75 lakh by December this year.

New Delhi, June 4: Union New and Renewable Energy MinisterPralhad Joshion Thursday said that more than 41 lakh households across the country have been covered under thePM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, expressing confidence that the number will reach 75 lakh by December this year.

Launched in February 2024 with an outlay of Rs 75,021 crore, the scheme aims to provide rooftop solar systems to one crore households and offer up to 300 units of free electricity every month.

Under the initiative, beneficiaries receive Central Financial Assistance covering 60 per cent of the cost for rooftop solar systems up to 2 kW capacity and 40 per cent of the additional cost for systems between 2 kW and 3 kW, making solar energy more affordable for households across India.
