New Delhi, April 23: On April 24, 2025, the nation will observe National Panchayati Raj Day (NPRD), marking 32 years since the enactment of the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act, 1992, which granted constitutional status to Panchayats as institutions of rural local self-governance.
The central event will be held in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Lohna Uttar Gram Panchayat, located in Jhanjharpur Block of Madhubani District, Bihar. On this occasion, the Prime Minister will address Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and Gram Sabhas across the country. He will also confer the Special Category National Panchayat Awards 2025, recognizing outstanding contributions at the grassroots level.
This year, National Panchayati Raj Day is being celebrated as a major national initiative under a "Whole-of-Government" approach, with active involvement from six Union Ministries: Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Ministry of Power, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
As part of the celebrations, the Prime Minister will dedicate and lay the foundation stone for several key infrastructure and welfare projects, collectively worth around ₹13,500 crore. These projects include: LPG bottling plants, Electrification initiatives, Housing schemes, Railway infrastructure, Road development works.
Additionally, financial assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (both Gramin and Urban) and Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY–NRLM) will be disbursed during the program.
