Kalahandi, June 10: In a tragic road accident, two truck drivers lost their lives after a speeding container truck rammed into parked vehicles near Khajurpada village under Kesinga block in Odisha’s Kalahandi district early Thursday morning.

According to reports, three trucks carrying paddy from Haramal village had arrived near a rice mill at Khajurpada to unload their consignment. The vehicles were parked along National Highway-26, which connects Bargarh and Borigumma.

At around 3 a.m., two truck drivers had stepped out of their vehicles and were standing beside the trucks when a container truck bearing registration number OD-18L-7888, travelling from Bhawanipatna towards Kesinga, allegedly lost control and crashed into the parked trucks at high speed.

The impact was so severe that the container reportedly dragged the two drivers for nearly 50 feet, killing them on the spot. Eyewitnesses said the victims suffered devastating injuries, making identification difficult.

On receiving information, Kesinga police rushed to the scene, recovered the bodies, and sent them to the Kesinga Community Health Centre for post-mortem examination.

Initial reports suggested that the container driver fled the spot after the accident. However, police later traced and detained him. The container vehicle involved in the accident has also been seized, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.
