Shreyas Iyer Leads PBKS to a Thrilling Five Wicket Victory over CSK at Chepauk

Punjab Kings dominate Chennai Kings in record 210-run chase

PBKS secured a spectacular five-wicket victory against CSK on Friday, successfully chasing a daunting target of 210 runs at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium. Captain Shreyas Iyer anchored the pursuit with a composed 50, but the foundation was laid by a blistering start from Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh.

Powerplay Explosion

Priyansh Arya ignited the chase by taking 14 runs off the opening over from Khaleel Ahmed. The momentum shifted gear when Matt Henry conceded 20 runs in the second over, as Arya found the boundary with clinical precision. Despite falling for a rapid 39 off 11 balls, Arya’s aggression allowed Punjab to reach 50 runs in just 3.2 overs. Cooper Connolly with a brisk 36, ensuring the run rate remained manageable.

Iyer Finishes the Job

Shreyas Iyer showcased his tactical maturity by targeting Rahul Chahar in the 13th over, clearing the ropes twice. His 29-ball 50 provided the stability required after the early fireworks. While Anshul Kamboj dismissed Iyer in the 17th over, the damage was already done. Shashank Singh and Marcus Stoinis remained unbeaten to cross the line with eight balls to spare.

Historical Perspective

Winning at Chepauk remains one of the toughest challenges in the IPL, as the spinning tracks in Chennai traditionally favour the home side’s defensive bowling strategies.

Chennai’s Batting Effort

Earlier, Ayush Mhatre propelled CSK to 209/5 with a sparkling 73. Shivam Dube provided late impetus with an unbeaten 45, punishing Arshdeep Singh and Xavier Bartlett in the death overs. However, the CSK bowling unit struggled to contain the Punjab batters on a surface that offered little lateral movement. Vijaykumar Vyshak emerged as the standout bowler for the visitors, claiming two vital wickets to disrupt Chennai's rhythm.
