Police heighten security at Pratap Jena’s residence following alleged armed assault

Bhubaneswar, March 21: The Commissionerate Police has significantly intensified security and surveillance at the Unit-6 residence of senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and former Minister Pratap Jena.

This precautionary measure follows alarming claims made by the leader on social media regarding a late-night attack. The incident reportedly unfolded late Friday night while Jena was returning from Mahanga.

According to his official statement on X, a group of 15 to 20 intoxicated miscreants forcibly entered his premises around 11:30 PM. Jena described the encounter as an act of "armed terror," alleging that the group thrashed his security guards and household staff while threatening them at gunpoint.

He further claimed that his family members were inside the house during the ruckus.

The BJD leader pointed toward political motives, alleging that the attackers were acting under the direct instructions of a BJD MLA. He also identified some of the individuals as suspended members of the BJD’s youth and student wings.

In his public appeal to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and the Director General of Police, Jena cited the incident as evidence of a serious breakdown of law and order within the state capital and demanded immediate disciplinary action.

The unrest appears to be a direct fallout of internal party friction. Hours prior to the confrontation, the BJD had officially suspended several youth and student leaders for alleged anti-party activities.
