PM Modi Addresses ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan’, Highlights Women’s Rising Role

New Delhi, April 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan at Vigyan Bhawan, celebrating Baisakhi and marking the upcoming New Year celebrations. He paid tribute to the martyrs of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and emphasized India’s forthcoming decision, dedicated to empowering women.

The Prime Minister hailed the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, passed unanimously in 2023, which aims to increase women's representation in Parliament by 2029. He expressed confidence that this initiative will bolster women’s participation in democracy, with Parliament’s Budget Session beginning on April 16 to discuss the matter further.

Recalling the pivotal role women have played in India’s independence and progress, Modi underscored their growing leadership in sectors once dominated by men. He highlighted women’s contributions in local governance, where over 14 lakh women are active in panchayats, and noted the positive impact on issues like water, education, and health.

The Prime Minister outlined several government schemes designed to support women at every stage of life, from education to healthcare, and emphasized their increasing economic empowerment. He also noted that over 32 crore women now have bank accounts thanks to Jan Dhan Yojana and that over 60% of Mudra Yojana loans are taken by women.

Modi celebrated women’s leadership in entrepreneurship, with over 45% of startups having at least one female director, and encouraged women to continue their active participation in shaping the country’s future. He concluded by urging women to spread awareness about the Nari Shakti Vandan initiative, ensuring that women across India recognize their power and potential in the political and social spheres.
