Bhubaneswar, June 25: Acclaimed Odia feature film 'Lahari' has been selected for screening at the third edition of the Bhubaneswar Film Festival, being held from June 25 to 28 in the capital city. The four-day festival will showcase a diverse range of acclaimed Odia films alongside notable works from across India, highlighting the richness and diversity of regional cinema.
Directed by Amartya Bhattacharyya, Lahari is a philosophical coming-of-age drama that delves into themes of human relationships, identity, self-discovery and personal growth. The film explores the emotional complexities of friendship, fatherhood, parent-child relationships, love, separation and longing, while reflecting on the pursuit of a better life through symbolic storytelling.
Set against the backdrop of rural Odisha, the film also touches upon issues of rural entrepreneurship and ecotourism, weaving them into its broader narrative of life’s struggles and aspirations. According to the filmmaker, the title Lahari (meaning “waves”) serves as a metaphor for the continuous flow of experiences and relationships that shape human lives.
Known for its poetic visuals and introspective narrative, Lahari has received recognition at several international film festivals, bringing wider attention to contemporary Odia cinema. Critics have described the film as philosophical, symbolic and visually evocative, offering an alternative to conventional commercial storytelling.
The Bhubaneswar Film Festival will also feature several other notable Odia films, including Maguni Ra Sagada, Baida, Aamada Bata and Lal, providing audiences with a vibrant showcase of regional cinematic excellence.
