Stranded Indian sailors receive emergency aid from Pakistan Navy
Pakistani naval forces successfully provided critical humanitarian aid to an Indian offshore supply vessel, MV Gautam, after it became immobilized in the Arabian Sea. The ship had a crew of seven, comprising six Indian nationals and one Indonesian. The ship suffered a severe technical failure while traveling from Oman to India. Security sources confirmed that the Pakistan Navy, along with the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA), launched a rapid support operation to ensure the safety of the stranded mariners.

Initial communication regarding the crisis came from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai. Indian authorities reached out to their Pakistani counterparts to request urgent intervention as the vessel drifted without power. In response, the Pakistani military dispatched a ship named PMSS Kashmir to locate the distressed ship. Upon arrival, technical teams and medical personnel boarded the MV Gautam to assess the situation and provide immediate relief.

Reports indicate that the Pakistani rescue team delivered essential provisions, including food and water, to the exhausted crew. Medical staff also conducted health screenings to ensure no sailors were suffering from dehydration or injury during their time adrift. Search and rescue operations in the northern Arabian Sea often require cross-border communication despite broader diplomatic tensions. Under the International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue, neighbouring nations are obligated to assist any vessel in distress within their search zones. This incident follows a similar event last month where the Pakistan Navy evacuated 18 crew members from a different merchant ship, highlighting a consistent pattern of maritime safety enforcement in these busy shipping lanes. Efforts to fully repair or tow the vessel are currently ongoing as both nations maintain contact through established maritime channels. This successful intervention serves as a reminder of how functional cooperation at sea can prevent potential maritime disasters.
