Operation Prahar: Youth held with 121 grams of brown sugar in Bhubaneswar

​​​​​​​Bhubaneswar, Sept 19: Moving ahead with Operation ‘Prahar’, Commissionerate Police arrested a 25-year-old youth on Friday for allegedly smuggling brown sugar in Bhubaneswar and seized 121 grams of the contraband from his possession.

Acting on a tip-off, a special team of Commissionerate Police conducted a surprise raid in the Dhauli area and nabbed the accused, identified as Ajay Kumar Parida alias Raja (25).

The police seized 121 grams of brown sugar, Rs 1,000 in cash, a mobile phone, and a SIM card from his possession.

According to the police, Raja, a resident of Rakema village under Fategarh police limits in Nayagarh, was involved in the illegal brown sugar smuggling in the city. He supplied white sugar to retailers across Bhubaneswar while also dealing in brown sugar.

Acting on intelligence reports about Raja's activities, the police carried out a raid under Operation ‘Prahar’, a crackdown on drug dealers initiated ahead of the festive season.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing, said the police.
