Supreme Court registers case over SCBA resolution on Andhra HC judge sending young lawyer to custody

The Supreme Court of India on Friday registered a case treating a resolution passed by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) as a PIL after the bar body expressed concern over an Andhra Pradesh High Court judge reportedly sending a young advocate to 24-hour judicial custody for a procedural lapse.

New Delhi, May 8: The Supreme Court of India on Friday registered a case treating a resolution passed by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) as a PIL after the bar body expressed concern over an Andhra Pradesh High Court judge reportedly sending a young advocate to 24-hour judicial custody for a procedural lapse.

According to the apex court website, the case has been tentatively listed for hearing on May 15.

On May 6, the bar body, while expressing shock at the high court order, urged Chief Justice of India Surya Kant to take cognisance of the incident.
