Bhubaneswar, June 6: Odisha has received a national award under the Centre’s ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’ for its outstanding performance in promoting rooftop solar installations. The award was conferred by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), recognizing the state's significant contribution to solar energy adoption.
The achievement has been attributed to the concerted efforts of Odisha’s power distribution companies (DISCOMs), led by Tata Power, which have played a key role in expanding rooftop solar projects across the state.
The award was presented by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi at a special ceremony held in New Delhi. Odisha Energy Department Additional Secretary Saidutta Biplab Keshari Pradhan, along with officials from the power distribution companies, received the honour on behalf of the state.
According to official data, Odisha secured the top position nationwide in the highest number of consumer applications, rooftop solar installations, and DISCOM inspections under the scheme. The state also ranked third in vendor registrations.
The recognition highlights Odisha’s growing leadership in renewable energy and its successful implementation of rooftop solar initiatives. Congratulating all stakeholders, TPCODL CEO and Chief Odisha Distribution Business Gajanan S. Kale described the award as a testament to the collective efforts made to accelerate clean energy adoption in the state.
