Man arrested for posing as Sub-Collector, cheating Bhubaneswar showroom

Bhubaneswar, June 27: A man from Andhra Pradesh was arrested by police for allegedly posing as a sub-collector and cheating a showroom in Bhubaneswar's Saheed Nagar by taking away a pair of smart glasses without making payment.

The accused, identified as Borada Sudeer, visited the showroom on Thursday and selected smart glasses worth Rs 41,800. He claimed to have transferred the payment through the National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) system and showed the showroom staff a screenshot of the transaction as proof.

Believing the payment had been made, the showroom staff handed over the product. When they informed him that the amount had not been credited to the showroom's account, Sudeer allegedly introduced himself as a sub-collector and assured them that the payment would be received soon before leaving the store.

After the money failed to reflect in the account, the showroom staff repeatedly tried to contact him over the phone, but he did not respond.

The showroom later lodged a complaint at Saheed Nagar Police Station. Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and arrested the accused on Friday.

Police are further investigating the case to ascertain whether the accused was involved in similar frauds elsewhere.
