Kaptipada, June 25: A love story in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district has drawn attention after a young woman adopted Santhali traditions before marrying her partner in a village under Kaptipada block.
The incident took place in Mainshiduba village under Mankadpada panchayat. Ratan Soren, son of Pandu Soren, was working in a private company in Bhubaneswar, where he fell in love with a young woman. After being in a relationship for some time, the couple decided to get married.
Ratan brought the woman to his native village and informed his family about their relationship. His family and villagers accepted their decision to marry. However, they later came to know that the woman belonged to the Christian faith.
A meeting of village elders was then held. During the discussion, it was decided that if the marriage was to be conducted according to local Santhali customs, the woman would have to adopt the community's traditions. The woman agreed to the proposal.
Following Santhali customs, she participated in traditional rituals and community ceremonies. After completing the rituals, she was accepted into the Santhali community.
The couple was then married in the village in the presence of family members, villagers and community elders. The marriage was celebrated according to local traditions, marking a new chapter in their lives.
The unique marriage has become a topic of discussion in the area, highlighting how love and cultural traditions came together in this village of Mayurbhanj.
