Brazilian journalist claims Israeli intelligence targeted Pakistan military leadership
Brazilian investigative journalist Pepe Escobar recently claimed that Israeli intelligence targeted Pakistan's top military official. Escobar stated that Mossad planned to assassinate Field Marshal Asim Munir. This alleged plot reportedly unfolded while the Pakistani delegation visited Geneva for Iran-US peace negotiations. According to Escobar, Pakistani military intelligence intercepted highly credible information regarding this direct threat from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's administration.
Pakistan issues severe warning
Officials in Islamabad allegedly responded with extreme aggression after discovering the threat. Escobar noted that Pakistan used backchannel diplomats, possibly in Oman, to deliver a strict message to Israeli leaders. They reportedly threatened to completely destroy Israel if anyone harmed their delegation. Pakistan historically lacks formal diplomatic ties with Israel, making these indirect nuclear threats particularly alarming for global security. Both nations possess nuclear arsenals, raising the stakes of any direct confrontation significantly.
Journalists reject assassination rumors
Pakistani media professionals quickly dismissed these bold assertions. Digital news platform The Current reported that several local journalists view the story as completely baseless. Senior journalist Syed Talat Hussain publicly denied the claims on social media. He called the entire narrative absolute nonsense and noted that a senior security official labeled it as perverse propaganda. Without any concrete evidence, experts warn against believing such sensational geopolitical rumors.
Diplomatic friction remains high
These rumours surfaced shortly after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif traveled to Switzerland. His team worked to reduce friction between Washington and Tehran. The initial agreement, known as the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, brought top officials together. US Vice President JD Vance even attended these crucial meetings. Meanwhile, Pakistani leaders have strongly criticised Israel's military actions in Lebanon, calling them a curse. Neither the Pakistani government nor Israeli officials have officially confirmed Escobar's explosive claims, leaving the story entirely unverified.
