Bhubaneswar, May 6: Jeetu Munda, who recently made headlines for carrying his sister’s skeleton to a rural bank in Keonjhar to validate her death and claim funds, underwent a traditional tribal purification ritual on Wednesday and hosted a community feast.
Among the Munda tribe, burying the deceased is customary, and disturbing the grave is considered a serious violation. According to tribal customs, purification ceremonies are necessary if a body is exhumed for any reason.
The 50-year-old man had exhumed the skeletal remains of his sister, 56-year-old Kalra Munda, on April 27. Kalra had passed away in January. After retrieving her remains, Jeetu reportedly walked about three kilometres to the Maliposi branch of Odisha Grameen Bank, presenting the skeleton to officials as proof of her death.
