Indian Army and Assam Rifles foil militancy operations in Manipur, 17 cadres apprehended

Indian Army and Assam Rifles formations under Spear Corps, in close coordination with Manipur Police, conducted a series of precise, intelligence-based joint operations across Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Chandel, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, and Tengnoupal districts over the past week.

Indian Army and Assam Rifles foil militancy operations in Manipur, 17 cadres apprehended

Imphal, Mar 31: Indian Army and Assam Rifles formations under Spear Corps, in close coordination with Manipur Police, conducted a series of precise, intelligence-based joint operations across Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Chandel, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, and Tengnoupal districts over the past week.

According to an official release, the operations led to the apprehension of 17 cadres from both hill- and valley-based groups. The security forces also recovered 17 weapons, explosives, and other war-like stores.

Key operations over the week included:

· 22 March 2026: A joint operation by Assam Rifles and Bishnupur Police Commandos in Nambol Sabal Leikai, Bishnupur District, apprehended an active KYKL cadre. On the same day, another operation by Assam Rifles and Special Commandos in Singjamei, Imphal West, resulted in the arrest of a PREPAK (PRO) cadre, along with a mobile phone and SIM card. Additionally, 10 PREPAK (RA) cadres were apprehended near the Indo-Myanmar border in Tengnoupal District.

· 23 March 2026: The Indian Army conducted an operation in Chana village, Lamlai PS, Imphal East, leading to the arrest of a KCP Apunba cadre and recovery of a mobile phone and SIM card. On the same day, a joint operation in Sawombung, Imphal East, apprehended a cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Nongdrenkhomba).

· 25 March 2026: Assam Rifles, in coordination with Manipur Police, recovered a carbine, two pistols, four pistol magazines, three single-barrel bolt-action rifles, two single-barrel pull-mechanism rifles, two improvised mortars, and assorted ammunition in the Kangpokpi District.

· 26 March 2026: Based on actionable intelligence, the Indian Army conducted a joint search in Loilamkot, Churachandpur, recovering two single-barrel rifles, three bombs, one IED, two pompies, three grenades, and five rounds of ammunition.

· 27 March 2026: Assam Rifles launched operations in Tengnoupal, apprehending a People’s Liberation Army (PLA) cadre, a KYKL cadre, and a KCP cadre, along with a mobile phone.

· 28 March 2026: In a joint operation in Yangoubung Village, Chandel District, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police recovered six pistols with six magazines, one single-barrel rifle, fifteen IEDs, and two radio sets.
