Bhubaneswar, April 2: The Commissionerate Police’s Special Crime Unit has busted an illegal arms racket operating in the capital and arrested one accused from Sundarpada area.

The arrested has been identified as Amaresh Rout alias Kahna of Sundarpada Talasahi. Acting on reliable inputs, the Special Crime Unit conducted a raid and apprehended the accused.

During the operation, police seized two semi-automatic pistols, 10 rounds of live ammunition, and two magazines from his possession. A motorcycle used in the illegal trade was also confiscated.

Preliminary investigation suggests the involvement of an inter-state syndicate behind the arms racket. Police have intensified efforts to trace the network and identify other associates involved in the illegal operation.
