Bhubaneswar, July 26: In a horrific incident early Sunday morning, the headless body of a man was discovered on the road near the Baramunda Bus Stand. What initially sparked fears of a gruesome murder was later confirmed by police to be a severe hit-and-run accident.
The deceased has been identified as Hadu Mallik, a resident of Khordha who worked as a fish trader.
According to reports, locals spotted the mutilated body lying on the road at approximately 4:00 AM. Shocked by the discovery, they immediately alerted police and they arrived at the scene shortly after to secure the area and launch an investigation.
To piece together the sequence of events, investigating officers reviewed CCTV footage from nearby establishments. The footage revealed the tragic reality of the incident that Mallik was struck by a speeding car while attempting to cross the road.
Police stated that the sheer force of the collision was so severe that it resulted in the victim's decapitation, killing him instantly on the spot.
Police have registered a case and are currently utilizing the CCTV evidence to identify and track down the vehicle and the driver involved in the fatal accident.
